Knuckles Traverse

Adventure 8 Days · 7 Nights Kandy → Knuckles Range → Matale Private · Licensed mountain guide

The Knuckles Mountain Range — Dumbara Massif in Sinhala — is a UNESCO World Heritage site that almost no visitor goes to. Thirty-four peaks rising above 1,000 metres, five above 1,500, draped in cloud forest that the Pekoe Trail doesn't touch. The range runs east of Kandy in a series of jagged ridges that, from a distance, look like a row of knuckles.

This eight-day traverse crosses the range from west to east — cloud forest to dry zone — through villages where the Dumbara mat-weaving tradition has continued for four centuries. New for 2026, this is one of the most unusual walks in Sri Lanka.
